Today I would like to introduce you to the clean language feedback designed by Caitlin Walker and Nancy Doyle of Training Attention and Genius Within. Two great clean language facilitators that have used Clean Language to support teams and people in business achieve high performance teams and to overcome challenges that people face when the focus on the problem such as dyslexia opposed to focusing on what is working for the team or that person. Gaining greater clarity and understanding for the individual and the group.
The questions themselves can seem very simple but please do give them a go.
You can ask yourself these questions after a meeting, a week’s work or even a phone call that you would like to evaluate, develop and improve.
- What worked?
- How do you know?
Take the time to really notice what you are noticing, what did you hear, see or feel that told you it worked?
- What didn’t work?
- How do you know?
Take the time again to really notice what you are noticing, what did you hear, see or feel that told you it worked?
- What needs to happen for it to work better?
- Is there any resource or support you require from others?
You can also ask this of your team. Be mindful that you may want to ask one or two questions about their response to fully understand what they mean. It is likely that initially you are interpreting their words, language and body language based on your life experience and what it means to you may be completely different to them. So try these extra questions in between:
- Is there anything else about ?
- What kind of ………is that ……….?
Adding their words into the question exactly.
