When you are leading a team it is vital that they can learn and grow together.

It is vital that they can speak up and be heard and understood.

Do you find it possible to be yourself in the team? or Do you find yourself biting your tongue constantly checking yourself before you speak?

What is peer pressure?

During a recent Listen, Lunch and Learn session I was interested to hear a member of the group say that if someone had asked them for their opinion and they believed that their ‘honest’ opinion would upset the other person then they would not tell them the truth.

Someone else said “I have always been a straight talker, I say it as it is and yet when I am asked for my opinion people don’t often want it. So I have learned to ‘curb’ what I say. I have noticed that I have pockets of people and each of them I am only telling part of the story to. I don’t have anyone that I can say everything too”

Where does peer pressure like this come from?

I believe that the origin is unique for everyone and how we react to the opinion and feedback of others can determine whether they ‘attempt’ to tell us what they think again in the future.
