In our busy lives we have email, text and social media to communicate so why bother we staff room chatter?
It would seem the human thing of talking and listening to another human being has almost gone out of the window in a typical working day but we know from our discussion model that when we exclude the chatting with purpose of being interested section the effectiveness of the discussions drops…
So why is it when we know on some level that being interested in the people we work with does matter.
Why is it that you almost have to book an appointment to do it.
Some companies have adopted the email free Fridays to get their staff talking to each other. How about you? Are you making time to connect with the person and not just with the job they do for you?
One of our clients recently said that the Power Groups were like a staff room for sole traders. A place for you to talk things through and know that the other people understood and were in the same boat so to speak and everything said was confidential. Which I guess is probably a little better than a typical staff room in the past.
So when we are all against the clock and yet we know that knowing the people we work with is essential for good relationships, productivity and team support.
